Hello everyone!
I am currently in the process of reading Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great by Judy Blume. This is a realistic fiction children's book and I enjoy it because it is an easy read for elementary level students! It is easy to understand and a great chapter book for readers who are just starting out.
I am in the beginning chapters of the book and it is just talking about the main characters and some background information. There is no serious plot as of right now.
Shelia Tubman is the main character and she is in the fifth grade and wants nothing to do with dogs or her older sister, Libby. Libby Tubman is her older sister who is mean to her and is in love with teenage boys. I am assuming that Sheila's mother is a stay at home mom because her job hasn't been revealed yet. Shelia's father is a professor at Marymount College and teaches English.
The family lives in an apartment in New York city and leaves for the summer so that they get to do something different during the summertime. They go to Tarrytown for the summer and are renting out a home and the girls get to go to a private art camp during their summer vacation. At first, Sheila does not like the home, but meets her new summer girlfriend, Mouse. Mouse likes to yo-yo, swim, and loves dogs! Other than not knowing how to swim and hating dogs, Sheila and Mouse are getting along very well and are both excited because they can go to art camp together.
Lastly, there was one part of the book that really stuck out to me and that was the game that Shelia and her father play everyday. When Sheila gets home each day, she positions her shoes in the direction to where she can be found and when her father gets home shortly after her he goes looking for her in the direction that her shoes are pointed. I thought that was so cute because even though it is a fiction book, Judy Blume wrote this book in honor of her father and their special fame of hide-and-seek in real life. This stuck out to me because I could just feel the love that the author has for her father.

I can't wait to read what is going to happen next!
